Help feeling lost and no control

I just joined hoping someone can give me some direction because I'm not getting any answers from Litton Loans. It all started back in January when our rates caused our payment to double. After getting behind some gentlemen from Litton Loan called like a knight in shining armor stating he can start a loan mod. process just send him certain paper work and that it can take several weeks, so we did. He also said not to send any payments in the mean time. We went out of town for 10 days and came back to a foreclosure notice on our door. So we contacted Litton Loan. They said that the never received anything. So we explained and they said the could start over. So we sent everything again. We asked about the foreclosure, they said that they would postpone if they felt that the loan mod could be done. Well after calling several time the did postpone the foreclosure date. Then the President sign the bill to postpone foreclosures for thirty days. Well today i got a letter for a lawyer stating that my house was sold in the Sheriff's sale on April 9th, I never received a notice and my wife just talked to the loan mod officer yesterday and was asking what amount of money i can give them for the loan mod. and of course i cannot get a hold of the loan officer. HELP
