Default Hope Now Question

Hi all-I just heard this today and found it interesting and was wondering if anyone could confirm or deny this...CitiMortgage told me that the information that I filled out for Hope Now was never disclosed to them, that Hope Now is basically Freddie Mac (I knew there was an association) and that the information I filled out for them was to see if "they" (Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac) could offer me a loan modification. When "they" were unable to offer me a loan modification, someone from CitiMortgage called me and told me that a short sale was the way go. He mentioned I could fill out the hardship assistance information on Citimortgage's site and fax it back (however he provided a local fax # which Citi told me is the Hope Now fax #?? I called him today and asked if he was indeed an employee of Citi he told me yes- so now I'm confused but that's another story! so when I call today they have no record of receiving it, ugh!)When I called today CitiMortgage told me that Hope Now does not release or provide them any of the information I provided to them? The whole time I thought that Hope Now was working with CitiMortgage to see if there was a program they could offer me- but apparently not. Is this normal, maybe I just misinterpreted things I read here but I thought they were working on my behalf with the lender not just figuring out if Freddie Mac could offer me a loan modification. So the next step is to fill out the hardship stuff for Citi before they can determine if they are able to offer me a loan modification or any assistance. At this point I'm confused as to why I "wasted" the time on the Hope Now interview and "process" (30-45 days) if they don't relay that information to Citi.Is this how Hope Now has worked for others? Thanks in advance!
