Default American Home Mortgage Servicing - Hard to Believe

Okay, here's an new one - I owe about $486,000 on my first and $50,000 on my second. My house is worth about $300,000 and there are two larrger homes in my neighborhood currently listed for $275,000.I tried with some success to keep making the payments but my house of cards finally fell this August. AHMS tells me that they will allow my husband (who is not on the loan or title but has good credit) to purchase our house on a short sale, and that I should send over the offer as soon as possible.Personally, I'm having a hard time believing this because I thought a short sale had to be a non-arm's length transaction.Anyone know differently?
