Suckered into bad loan Hello everyone, in 2005 my husband was killed in an accident. I had just had triple bypass and a hysterectomy the year before. I notified our mortgage company of his death when he died and I was told since my name was not on the loan they could not talk to me. Everytime that year that I called them they said the the same thing. I explained to them that my husband had died and that the payments were up to date (never late) still did not matter. In 2006 Quicken Home Loans contacted me to offer a refinance. They said I needed to get the loan in my name because I would not be able to claim the interest on my income taxes that year if I didn't. I wanted to borrow $170,000. They said they couldn't do that all in one loan that I would need to split into 2 loans one for $150,000 and one for $20,000. Still not thinking straight after the lost of my husband I did it. Before the refinance my credit was great. Within a short period of time that changed since my mortgage jumped from $700 a month to $ 1500. Before the first payment was due my loans were sold to Countrywide. The second has a balloon payment coming up and there is no way to pay it. I am so angry because I told the broker handling the new loans everything and he knew the situation and led me to believe that this was something I needed to do. I have since found out that all I needed was a quick claim deed. I go to bed at night worried that I am going to lose my home of twenty years because some jerk who obviously has no since of right or wrong led me down this road. I really feel I let my husband down. I need some honest answers about what the best steps for me to take are. I have contacted Countrywides Hope Program but have yet heard anything from them. |
