Default Wells Fargo Remod Offer

We have our mortgage thru Wells Fargo at 6.8%. We had some financial troubles regrdng vehicles and child illness and are 2 mnths behind in our pmts, now tho they (wells) have put us on a repayment plan. However it increased our monthly payment by $400 from October til March. I spoke with them yesterday and they offered me to 'apply' for a remodification loan which will take them approx. 2 mnths to approve or deny. They suggested I save my monthly pmts until their decision 'in case its denied' and then i can discuss a repayment plan at that point. I am scared of being denied as they of course are not saying what their requirements are to be approved. I dont know what to do.Can you give me a suggestion? My mortgage broker (not Wells) and my real estate agent are out of town,, great.thank youLeslie Souza
