Wells Fargo Waiting for Modification

We were put on a special forbearance plan with Wells Fargo back in April. We had to pay three consecutive payments by the 18th of each month. Our third payment was made on June 9th. I called Wells Fargo on June 10th and updated our financial information which had not changed. We have a ballon payment due on July 18th around $12,000. Does anyone know if Project Lifleine really works. I have called every other day for the past three weeks and nothing yet. Of course when I call I get a different answer from each person. I even had the VA call them on Monday as we have a VA loan as I was told on Monday they were waiting for VA approval. The woman from the VA called them and told them to go ahead with the modification. But when I called back today I was told it was in the set up department but no one was assigned. We have been through hell and back with this company since last October. I am just scared that they are going to screw with us again. I was told today that if it was not processed by the 18th of the month we would not have to pay this months payment which is the $12000 we do not have. Any advise or should we just keep waiting. Everyone around me tells me we will be fine as every where you read about project lifeline states you will be modified after three consecutive payments.
